An allegory on why people will never care about decentralisation or privacy: Most people are lazy to the point where they can’t be inconvenienced to even remove their transit cards to scan it on buses and train stations — where they just scan their entire wallet — not realising that they’re giving up everything else in it (if compromised). Unironically, even if people did know, most wouldn’t change that habit. Now, you expect said people to go through decentralisation, a shittier user experience + a learning curve just to use your solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist. We need to accept that decentralisation only works in very few scenarios — bitcoin, for example, is one of them — a decentralised store of value that everyone agrees upon — it isn’t an inconvenience, it’s a necessity. On the other hand, ‘Uber, but decentralised’ — never made sense. Human nature lesson: People tend towards convenience. Which is why the kind of ventures that tend to succeed offer convenience where there were prior inconveniences.
