Every institution in healthcare profits when kids are sick and loses money when they’re healthy. Trying to change that incentive.
Derek - please step away from your phone. I think the 20 hours per day of blue light is rotting your brain.
It appears you are making the argument that removing neurotoxic chemicals that are currently in the majority of children’s food is a small thing.
You also seem to be implying that an administration that is dramatically reforming the FDA GRAS standards, SNAP, the Dietary Guidelines, and food labeling in the first year (reforms democrats and republicans have been saying must happen for 20 years and finally are) is somehow inconsequential.
Is everything okay?
Would love your ideas on “bolder” reforms.

It’s genuinely hilarious, and sort of perfectly fitting, that MAHA neuroticism about food chemicals combined with Trumpist love of trash food is cashing out in dietary wins like “now your 3,000 calorie Bloomin Onion is made with beef tallow!” and “Apple Jacks still have enough sugar to crash your pancreas, but now with less red!”

Bad take @esaagar - As an objective statement of fact, the past six months have seen the most significant reforms of our food system in modern history:
(1) Reform of FDA GRAS process to perform pre and post-market review of food chemicals (starting with phase out of artificial dyes, which is harmful) --> for decades, this has been considered a foundational food system reform that hasn't gotten done until now. Companies should be celebrated for incremental wins that nobody thought were possible a year ago.
(2) States removing soda and candy from SNAP - this is a $120 billion program, where soda is top item. This steers tens of billions of dollars per year to healthier food for lower-income Americans.
(3) Revised Dietary Guidelines - coming this year. The current DGAs vilify beef and promote added sugar for 2-year-olds. This will change and result in significant impacts to government procurement (schools and military) and culture.
(4) Mass cultural and societal awakening about the link between food and health / awareness of what we are eating - this is potentially the most important accomplishment. Americans are changing their habits and thinking about their food more every day. This is impacting markets and will show result in lower chronic disease rates.
If you have any constructive ideas, would love to hear them!

MAHA is now the greatest thing that has ever happened to big food. They can announce superficial changes to their poisonous food (in 2 years! lol) and get a full fledged advertisement from the US government
This is the "fat free" advertising craze of the 2000s all over again

Approximately 5% of pregnant women take an SSRI for depression. But SSRI use during pregnancy has been linked in observational studies to birth defects, miscarriages, and neurological and behavioral challenges in childhood.
On Monday, July 21 at 10 a.m. ET, we’ll be hosting an expert panel to discuss this important issue, including the current state of science and FDA product labels.

BREAKING: I'm investigating Mars for deceptive and illegal practices.
Mars must remove toxic artificial dyes from its U.S. food products not only to honor its public commitment and ensure that it stays on the right side of the law, but also because it’s the right thing to do.

Kyle Diamantas is crushing it at the FDA.

Laura Ingraham16.7. klo 08.13
Ice cream is getting a MAHA makeover—but don’t worry, it’s still the treat you love.
FDA’s Kyle Diamantas says: “The classic flavors of summer? No, it’s not all gone. We’ve got a lot of natural colors coming onto the market.”
