Shall I at least set my lands in order...
English will be the common international language for the foreseeable future. It has almost no grammar that is really important. It's just a group of words cobbled together from around the world. It's easy to learn. Its only problem is that it's hard to spell because of all the historical interludes. It has 26 letters that most people know anyway.
Chinese or anything like it has no chance. No one wants to learn 3,000 characters or hieroglyphs to read a newspaper. The Chinese won't even want to learn it long run.
You could think of English as a proto-AI - a first step toward artificial intelligence that made us able to communicate seamlessly, while also making us all stupid.

Buying salad dressings in the store isn’t good. You don’t know what’s in there, and you can do it at home so easily.
One of my favorites: dice half a shallot, add 1 tbsp white wine vinegar, 1/2 tbsp apricot jam, 1 tbsp olive oil - cracks of salt and pepper.
Mix with whatever greens you like. My preference is arugula and green lettuce. And I add grapes if I have them. It’s somewhat sweet - so it cuts anything savory well.

Have a look at this man. He is Albert, grandson of Queen Victoria, son of later King Edward VII - he died at the age of 28. He was set to become King one day. Because he died his younger brother became George V in 1911.
How did he die? He caught the worldwide flu of 1890 - which weakened him - and then he died of pneumonia in 1892. He was 28 years old.
I just think it’s worth noting how much better off we are now. Covid was bad, but mostly old people died. This was one of the most privileged men ever to live - and he went down at 28 for something most of us would brush off today with a pill and a couple days rest.

The United Kingdom entered WW1 - at least formally - because Germany violated a treaty regarding the neutrality of Belgium - a totally fake country that cannot even govern itself because it’s Frenchmen and Dutchmen who don’t like each other and don’t want to live together.
I like to point things like this out now and again because we have trip wires all over the place today - formal reasons to enter wars we don’t need to fight - and cavalier people who don’t face these realities and are historically ignorant.

There are 80-90,000 people who speak Somali at home living in Minnesota, mostly in Minneapolis-St Paul and surrounding environs. Almost half of them were actually born in Somalia. This all got started after US involvement in the Somali civil war in the early 1990s. In about 30 years, a white midwestern city that was a little quirky and fun becomes this. It doesn't take very long. Bad immigration policy can overrun a community, destroy it.

Omar Fateh is running for Minneapolis mayor to raise the minimum wage by over $4 over a few years, freeze rent, and ‘Trump-proof’ the city.
