This has obviously been the case for over a decade, but so much online discourse is underpinned by the sense that only someone within an identity or position can evaluate it. I’m somewhat sympathetic to this, especially as polarization increases (and fact-checking/editorial roles shrink or change). But acknowledging those constraints doesn’t mean outside evaluation is illegitimate by definition.
