I’m old enough to remember when MTG cards were called worthless pieces of paper in the 2000s. Same story later with Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon. What changed is simple. The generation that grew up with them now has social influence. Collecting became identity for Gen Z and millennials. And recently even things like Labubu are opening the space to a female audience, whereas before it was mostly a nerdy male hobby. Collecting is mainstream. Collecting is identity. NFTs are part of this, but in a digital world that requires authenticity, interoperability, liquidity, and status across apps. I waited 30 years for paper cards. I can wait 15 years for digital cards.
