I think my reply here is prolly helpful for the community as well:
1. You are right. What I meant is that it implements a tutoring loop "inspired" by the socratic method. The inspiration comes from the concept of probes or guiding questions. openLesson is designed to be a system where an LLM is monitoring your thinking process and guides you down the right path. There is less focus on the correctness of your answers (notice the system by design does not force you to use AI or any tool to query facts)
2. eeg and Video data collection are currently simply for data collection purposes to train our own tutor model down the road which can then use this to better gauge your current mental state. openLesson is part of a bigger project described here: The data goes then to a public data set ( and can be used later to train tutoring models (still wip)
3. So it is not Duolingo in the sense that Duolingo style edTech focused more on the content and less on the learning loop. Yes, sure they craft a learning path for you but there is no control on the low level learning loop. An analogy would be the relationship between an LLM and a AI agent like openClaw. openClaw just adds a harness (a loop) around an existing LLM and this harness hardcodes certain behaviours. openLesson is a harness for learning / tutoring in this context. We do not want to get in the business of generating tailored educational content for you which is what Duolingo, Brilliant. org and such do
The ultimate goal of openLesson and Uncertain Systems is to shorten the time to learn anything. Can the avg human learn PCB design in 2 weeks? If so we want to develop a harness that helps you learn it in 1 week or a few days. The current version is the v1 of our harness but we will in the future keep developing the harness itself. The loop.
I tried to generate a graphic comparing adaptive learning vs learning harnesses here:
