This debate is fascinating. I did get the sense that Beff would be totally fine with a soulless dyson swarm of zombie intelligence replacing humanity - so long as it harnesses more energy it's good. That's a hard pitch. I don't want that. I want the flame of humanity to persist. Vitalik's d/acc vision is more humanist, preserving the preferences of more people, there's a sense we can preserve humanity's soul across the event-horizon of the singularity, keeping what's beautiful while embracing the new. Beff's ideology is more darwinian. Humanity will survive, but only if earns survival. Adapt or become irrelevant, fuse with AI, become more intelligent, or be outcompeted and die. Maybe Beff is right - this whole game is about reducing entropy. But I find myself feeling there's more, hoping there's more. When i hear the strong e/acc pitch my gut reaction is always "ok but who's side are you on?"
