The only runway at Phuket Airport is closed after a landing incident involving Air India Express flight #IX938 (Boeing 737 MAX 8 with registration VT-BWQ)
The aircraft landed at 04:24 UTC and pictures in social media show the aircraft on the runway with it's front landing gear damaged.
According to NOTAM the runway will remain remain closed until 11:00 UTC.

Phuket Airport clarifies the case of an aircraft malfunction on the runway, with no injuries reported, and is taking action according to safety standards.
On March 11, 2026, Phuket Airport (HKT) clarified the case of an Air India Express flight AXB938 from Hyderabad (HYD) to Phuket (HKT) experiencing a malfunction on the runway after landing.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 with registration number VT-BWQ, arrived at Phuket Airport ahead of schedule, with a planned landing time of 11:40 AM and actually landed at 11:24 AM. There were 7 crew members, 131 incoming passengers, and 2 infants on board.
Initial investigations revealed that the aircraft landed in a Hard Landing manner, resulting in damage to the front landing gear, preventing the aircraft from being moved off the runway immediately. However, there were no reports of injuries from this incident.
Phuket Airport issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) from 12:08 PM to 6:00 PM to temporarily close the runway, while coordinating with relevant agencies to manage the situation and strictly follow the airport's safety procedures.
At 07:00 UTC, 12 inbound aircraft have been diverted to other airports.
