This is REALLY BAD for Oil prices.
🇺🇸 U.S. intelligence sees Iran taking steps to deploy SEA MINES in the Strait of Hormuz and this could seriously disrupt the oil supply.
Here is why:
The Strait of Hormuz is 21 miles wide at its narrowest point. It sounds big, but only 2 miles are actually used for shipping traffic. Two miles. That’s it.
Iran has an estimated 5,000–6,000 naval mines in stockpile right now. They don’t need all of them, a few hundred dropped into those 2 miles would change everything.
A mine doesn’t need to explode to cause chaos. The moment they are deployed in the water, tanker insurance rates spike, ships reroute, shipments halt, and 20% of the world’s oil supply gets choked off, before a single vessel is hit.
That’s the playbook: you don’t shut down the Strait, you just make it too expensive and too terrifying to use. Panic does the rest.
If this happens,
Oil. Shipping. Defense. Energy.
All four are about to move much higher.
