I’m gonna have to write a longer post about this, but the reason you’re seeing so much nostalgia in AI, specifically 90s and 2000s nostalgia, is because the 90s and 2000s were a time when people were optimistic about the future of technology. There was a lot of hope and a lot less doomerism. Everyone was excited because technology sparked a creative renaissance. Then we lost our way and It all started to feel soulless & corporate. But now for the first time in ~25 years, and coincidentally enough this ties into the nostalgia cycle, AI is coming back and fulfilling that promise the 90s and 2000s had. A promise that technology can help us do anything. And so a new creative renaissance is underway.
