This is dumb and completely unnecessary. It actually makes me want to give up on humanity. We have enough scientific data to 100% verify that eliminating weeds from our soil does more harm than good. It’s called biodiversity, and the soil needs it to thrive. North American farming is built on a hyper-capitalist model that has completely destroyed good soil composition on the false premise that monoculture is best (when is this ever true?). When you turn a biodiverse landscape into a monoculture, the result is the same as inbreeding in humans. The consequences are devastating: - Soil with no absorption → mass flooding - Plants too weak to resist disease → endless whack-a-mole with fungicides and pesticides - Destabilized soil → devastating erosion Eventually that farm soil is dead, stripped of all nutrients and basically turned to sand (see the Dust Bowl - we learned this in the 1930s, ffs). I love AI, but this tech moves us away from what we need and already know: good soil is the goal, you get that from biodiverse agriculture, and the result is healthy food and ecosystems. God, I hate humans sometimes.
