According to Decrypt, Canadian police have warned that scammers are using the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) logo to carry out "crypto asset recovery scams" to target victims who have been previously scammed for secondary scams. A resident who previously lost about $5,000 to an encrypted "remote work" scam received a call from a self-proclaimed lawyer after filling out a counterfeit RCMP bulletin form, claiming to have found about $60,000 in "crypto proceeds" in his name and could help recover it. Police emphasized that the RCMP will not contact individuals to inform them of the discovery of crypto accounts, will not work with private institutions to conduct paid recovery services, and will not ask for any fees to investigate fraud cases.
