Back in 2023 we talked to some Optimism people about building @kamigotchiworld there, and they literally encouraged us to skip building on Optimism and to go build on Base or Redstone (a failed gaming chain) instead because of 'the superchain'. The entire game was built with the OP stack in mind but they seemed determined that it would be better for us to go build somewhere else. It was an actual cuck mindset, I've never seen it before in any BD context ever. Anyway, in the end, we just put up our own OP-like chain on Yominet powered by @initia and we took all the sequencer fees for ourselves. People told me it was too centralized and not Eth aligned enough, I pointed out Base was completely centralized at the time and none of these Eth L2s with "Roadmaps" could be trusted to hit stage 2 decentralization. Flash forward to current year, none of the L2s have ever decentralized anything, and Base is literally moving off the OP stack. I still have no idea what Optimism wanted to happen there. But in the end I guess we got to take sequencer fees and were just as decentralized as we would have been on the L2s. On the other hand, Optimism has no apps and a completely dead community. Moral of the story: Don't vampire attack your own blockchain because of some nebulous cross-chain vision. That's a bad idea.
