Police Disguised as Lion Dance Performers Arrest Repeat Burglary Suspect in Nonthaburi
Police officers disguised as a lion dance troupe have arrested a burglary suspect following a series of incidents targeting the home of a senior officer under the Metropolitan Police Bureau, authorities said.
The case began on Feb. 4, 2026, when the officer reported multiple valuables missing from his residence, including numerous Buddhist amulets and two 12-inch Buddha statues, with signs of forced entry. A complaint was filed at Prachachuen Police Station. The suspect allegedly returned to the property again shortly afterward and fled when spotted.
Investigators later traced some stolen items to a seller known as “Jojo,” believed to frequent temples in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. Officers encountered the suspect at one temple but he escaped after becoming suspicious.
On Feb. 18, police received information that the suspect planned to meet associates at temples in Sai Noi district. Officers deployed undercover at a temple fair, posing as lion dance performers. That evening, they identified a man matching the suspect’s description, approached him while maintaining the disguise, and arrested him without further incident.
