OpenClaw founder predicts: 80% of apps will be eliminated by AI
Peter, the founder of the recently popular open-source AI assistant OpenClaw, boldly asserted in a recent guest appearance on the Y Combinator podcast that the app era is over, and 80% of existing apps will be eliminated.
He gave an example that, because AI agents will actively record what you eat, what you like, and will proactively adjust your fitness plan, there will no longer be a need for fitness apps. Additionally, to-do list apps will also disappear; you just need to tell the AI something, and it will automatically remind you of everything.
In Peter's view, any app that is only used for manually "recording" and "managing" data will become redundant. AI can manage this data better and more easily for you. Those that will survive will be the models themselves and a few applications that must rely on hardware sensors.
Are you ready for this "app extinction" triggered by agents?
