I got to spend many hours in person with Jimmy over several days editing this episode. The uncut version was 3 hours. Jimmy said, "not even my late mother would sit through 3 hours of me talking." If you're not familiar, Jimmy Iovine has produced music with John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, U2, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Tupac—the list goes on. He invited me to his house to go through the initial edit, and we worked together in producing the final episode. Every frame had to fight for its life. Ultimately we cut it down to 2 hours. Jimmy explained that his talent in music producing comes from his short attention span. "I have ADD!" This ADD is a superpower. If he starts to get bored listening to a song, he starts making changes. He wanted me to do the same. "If you get bored for even a second— CUT! DJs are great because they get bored right before the listener, and they change the song." Jimmy is funny as hell, incredibly generous, packed with wisdom, and a great hang all-around.
