One of the things I like most about David Lynch is that he had a perfectly normal childhood. He wasn’t abused or abandoned. He grew up in a healthy environment. Interviewers often tried to dig into his past, assuming it held the traumatic material he calls upon. In reality, it was the opposite. He loved his mother and father, both of whom worked hard and spent ample time with him and his siblings. He was pulling on a thread he intuited along the way, external to his immediate world, which makes it all creepier. As far as we know, he didn’t experience the strange and horrible things he’d come up with. It was from somewhere else that only he could understand. Truly an amazing imagination.
