Republicans crushed in Georgia’s statewide Public Service Commissioner’s races.
Both GOP incumbents were ousted.
It’s the first time since 2000 that a Democrat has won a Public Service Commission race.
Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard won special elections for Georgia Public Service Commission seats on November 4, 2025, defeating Republican incumbents Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson with 58% and 61% of the vote, respectively. The victories break nearly two decades of Republican control over the five-member panel that regulates utilities like Georgia Power, shifting it to a 3-2 Democratic majority. The results stem from voter frustration over six rate hikes since 2023 that raised average monthly bills by $43, amid campaigns focused on affordability and clean energy.
