Some Personal, Additional Design Thoughts Behind @darkresearchai’s Rebrand
You may have noticed the distinct shift toward universal, physics-based motifs: the interplay between light and dark, our logo inspired by mathematical asymptotes, a largely monochromatic palette.
This was an intentional evolution -- a move toward a more mature, grounded, and enduring identity within what I personally believe is an increasingly noisy attention economy.
These timeless symbols point back to the laws that have and always will govern the universe: inertia, friction, entropy, equilibrium. Whether in code, capital, or consciousness -- the same forces apply.
I've been extraordinarily grateful to have the opportunity to rebrand a company according to these themes; as an artist, I am deeply existential -- I believe art is the medium through artists contend with their understanding of truth.
And so the following ideas & their explorations have been close to my heart for a long time, and it's been a really exciting for me to get to communicate them within Dark's brand identity moving forward:
--
1. A Return to Fundamentals & The Architecture of Tension
Crypto and AI are cultures built on acceleration, and often love capitalising on trends. Many projects chase novelty and spectacle — neon interfaces, synthetic imagery, cyberpunk tropes.
While I certainly believe that trends have their place, for Dark's rebrand, I specifically to move in the opposite direction: back toward the fundamentals.
Physics is not peace; it is equilibrium earned through struggle. Every force has its counterforce, every system its decay. Axioms define structure, while asymptotes remind us that structure is never complete.
Light only has meaning because darkness absorbs it. Entropy ensures order must constantly renew itself.
Dark’s identity lives in these contradictions. Its geometry and contrast aren’t attempts at neutrality -- they’re acknowledgments of the push and pull that make meaning possible. Tension is the mechanism of existence.
2. Light, Dark, and Moral Geometry
The company’s name has always invited metaphor. But here, darkness is not villainy, but rather: origin.
In physics, darkness is potential: the unlit field that makes illumination visible.
