This is such a disingenuous post and honestly disappointing coming from Vitalik. Trying to spin L2s as “secure extensions” of Ethereum is complete garbage. You gloss right over the centralization elephants in the room. All major L2s are still Stage 0 or 1, run by security councils and admin keys. Escape hatches and fraud proofs? That’s your solution? Really? Even if, and that’s a big IF, they ever hit Stage 2, sequencers can still censor and frontrun at will. And forced inclusions via L1? Come on. That’s not realistic for 99.999% of users. It requires technical skill, patience, and extra money. Meaning the average user is still censored. Governance? Still just a few keys away from upgrades or pauses. Translation: “trust us bro.” These aren’t small trade-offs. They’re massive sacrifices baked into the design. Until admin keys are nuked and sequencers removed, L2s are glorified servers pretending to be blockchains. And if the plan is to bank on altruism to fix it… good luck.
