the issue with voices like bill and @shaunmmaguire is that they intentionally want to frame this as a problem that began on october 7. focusing on the hostages, while ignoring the thousands of innocent civilians in israeli jails without charge.
but the truth is, the veil has only recently been lifted on decades of systemic violence, displacement, and illegal settlement expansion. this is what really bothers them.
what they want people to forget is the long history. the steady erosion of palestinian land, the routine killing of civilians, and the ever-growing network of illegal settlements (now being rebranded as “judea” by figures like smotrich, in a blatant attempt to legitimize what international law still considers occupation).
decades of impunity and silence now being challenged.

The risk to civilians in Gaza ends the moment the hostages are returned and Hamas surrenders. Over the last nearly two years, we have seen, time and time again, that when Western countries support the objectives of Hamas, Hamas only becomes more intransigent.
Britain, Canada, and France recently called for a two-state solution rewarding Hamas for its intransigence.
Hamas’ response to the call for a two-state solution was to withdraw from negotiations.
Why concede anything if holding hostages and staying in power moves the West to negotiate?
Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt recently called for Hamas to disarm and relinquish power.
Why can’t the West learn from the experts in the region that supporting terrorists only emboldens them?
