Building @JuniLearning @Acely_AI | YC, Stanford CS | I think kids should learn math
It’s finally time for me to make this post. After many years of building Juni and now Acely, I’m taking a step back from the CEO role and handing over the reins at an inflection point. I'll stay on as Chairman of the Board and remain actively involved in the company's growth.
Over the past 8 years, our Juni and Acely products went from an idea to thousands of students across the world and over $50M in revenue. Our mission has always been to prepare students for the real world and help them achieve their dreams. The increasing impact of AI on education has shown us new ways to pursue this mission, including extraordinary growth in our AI tutor product, Acely.
In just the last 12 months, we’ve seen incredible momentum and helped tens of thousands of students improve their test scores and get into their dream schools. Meeting students who tell me about how much we’ve helped them is still the best part of my day.
So why step back now? I’ve been a zero-to-one, then one-to-many builder for both the Juni and Acely products. I remember teaching the first Juni sessions every Saturday and Sunday morning, between taking new parent calls and working on the curriculum. There were many ups and downs over the last few years as we navigated the post-COVID education landscape and spun up an entirely new AI product to seize a generational technology shift, and our team has really risen to meet that opportunity.
Now that the new product is not only stable but growing rapidly, and our roadmap is clearer, I feel comfortable reevaluating my role on the team. Juni has been my waking thought for the last eight years, and while this is a bittersweet moment, I’m excited to continue our mission in a different capacity.
As part of that transition, I’m thrilled to welcome Ron Schneidermann as our new CEO. Ron was most recently CEO at AllTrails, where he scaled the company from a scrappy startup into a household name with millions of users and significant revenue growth. He brings deep expertise in scaling, brand-building and is the epitome of a mission-driven leader. We actually connected because his daughter is an avid Acely user - a reminder of the ripple effects that come from building products people love.
I will always be the biggest supporter of this team and company, and I firmly believe that we will continue to have a huge impact on people around the world as we scale. I know that the company is in excellent hands, and Ron and the team will bring Acely to new heights.
I can’t express enough how grateful I am to everyone I’ve worked with over the years - teammates, parents, students, instructors, investors, and those in the broader tech and education communities.
As for what’s next, I want to get back to my love of writing and work on some pipe dreams of mine, before inevitably jumping into building something again. I’d also love to reconnect with anyone from my past lives or broader network. Just DM me :)
