Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon on Mamdani’s rent freeze idea to fix NYC affordable housing: “The concept of freezing rents or rent controls, this is not new. This has been around for 100 years, and you can go back over 100 years and look at lots of times when that policy has been put in place in New York, and every single time the result was less affordable housing, less good housing. You can't find an academic study that suggests that this is a good policy.”

Goldman CEO David Solomon on why the growth outlook is getting better:
“I feel a little bit of a re-acceleration. I'm a
little bit more constructive on
the growth trajectory based on
where we are at a moment. And
look, some of this is confidence. I mean, it's hard to say that confidence is not
higher on July 15th than it was
on May 15th. And if confidence
is higher, you're going to see
that in behavior”

A few facts about the Fed’s $2.5b building renovation…
This is the 7th year of a 9 year renovation of 2 historic buildings. If they demolished it, would have been cheaper. Historic preservations take longer and cost more. The Fed consulted with congressional oversight committee leadership before it all got underway. It was approved by the Fed Board, of all senate confirmed members, each year. The budget has been posted on the Fed web site. Fed Chair Powell testifies before the House and Senate committees twice a year and it has never been brought up.

.@SecScottBessent made the point in our interview that Vietnamese suppliers will pay the tariffs to preserve or grow their market share, so it doesn’t have to hit U.S. company margins or U.S. consumer prices

I’m not sure our apparel and footwear industry would think this is a massive win….
Retailers already pay 18% and 13% tariffs on product they make in Vietnam and bring here … plus another 20%.
Equals 30% or more in tariffs
It’s not just Vietnam that pays that. It’s American retail.
