This is Gen Z marketing done right and there’s a few things I like here:
- short-form video & fun
- fixed the jargon with just “new social network where you can get paid!”
- founder @jessepollak is out there himself
- ppl are still a bit incentivized with $$ / juice
- the “incentive” is used in the moment, irl, aka something tangible I get right now, not some NFT I don’t know if I’ll ever want or need
- cool edit
- my @BoysClubWorld crush is involved
Maybe they didn’t onboard a thousand people that day, but does it even matter in this case?
The post got 175k views & 1.3k likes.
All it took to execute was probably a couple of hours, two people, a camera & a microphone.

Someone asked me today if I have any controversial opinions on DeFi.
Well here it is, beautifully put by @RektHQ:
“You think you’re the player, but you’re just an NPC in someone else’s game. Gamified finance pays its architects well in this era where exit liquidity isn’t just harvested - it’s manufactured, optimized, and delivered on demand.”
And today, it’s not just driven by greedy humans, it’s also fueled by conscience-lacking, efficient and never-tired AI bots.
And while this used to happen only somewhere out there, far in the trenches (which if you’re smart enough you should stay away from)... Not anymore. The SocialFi narrative driven by “mindshare” now got AI bots flooding all our timelines. All for squeezing as much cash as possible at TGE.
The cycle always repeats, the scams are the same, but the narrative that’s masking them is different.
🚩 YOU are the exit liquidity.
But I don’t think that’s controversial.
It’s just the truth. I can chat all day about the things that excite me about DeFi, but as bright as my hopes are, the reality we’re in today is just as dark. (Probably even darker)
This is why I believe institutions coming to DeFi is the best news of this cycle. RWAs backing real, sustainable yield for users, built brick by brick by protocols that still care about security, care about regulation, and care about the long-term vision. Few.

Agree with this and want to add something @OrnellaWeb3 were discussing recently
“You are either a growth marketer or a brand marketer by nature”
Aka some people are very data-driven & analytical by nature, and others are narrative-focused storytellers
Growth-driven = talented in making sure more people SEE your brand & engage with it (testing, funnels, etc)
Brand-driven = talented at making sure people LOVE your brand and stay loyal (tone, communication, associations, etc)
Most projects need both, but they want these two people to be found in one person.
It’s rare, and that’s why web2 companies have teams of 6+ marketing people.
When I was at Maker a few years ago, we had 1 Head of Growth, 1 CMO and 1 Head of Strategy in the same team, all bringing different perspectives to the growth team.
As a marketer, you can absolutely learn to do both but it will take time and practice. It’s like harmonizing the left hemisphere with the right :)
As a founder, maybe think about what matters most for you right now or hire 2 people instead of one.

I want to give @samanthawyap and her team @YAPGlobalTeam their flowers 💐 for the originality I found in their booth & swag at @EthCC Cannes:
- booth design was beautiful & very fitting for what they do (PR agency)
- they had fans as swag for the summer heat!
- the Founder Mode Comms whitepaper is something absolutely every founder needs, I hope they print more for every conference!! I read through it all & it’s spot on.
- the Yapper Times newspaper is one of those pieces that looks so good you want to frame it & put it on your wall
- I think they managed to show “we’re true storytellers” with their booth. Which is exactly what you need from a PR agency.
Bonus funfact: if I remember correctly, Samantha’s actual last name is Yap (hence name of the agency). It was so fun so see the “yapping” trend grow on CT and their name to fit so well into it :)
