Why has this viral tweet not been community noted?
A few days ago, I came across this story about ICE secretly deporting a Pennsylvania grandpa who was a legal US permanent resident when he went to replace his green card after misplacing it.
Allegedly, it was reported that he never had a single run-in with the law. And now his family had no idea how, but he ended up deported in Guatemala.
I was about to break my silence and go ape shit about ICE and DHS overstepping. This was a legal immigrant; not an illegal migrant who crossed the border or someone in a transitory status who lied on visa application forms.
Turns out, this is looking like it’s a total hoax. Not even remotely based on reality at all.
So far, there’s been no correction to this super viral post, and to the articles published on the Daily Beast, Guardian, and Independent (all of their social media posts on all platforms have also taken off).
This reminds me of that period between 2015 - 2021 when the media completely inflamed any story that remotely took the shape of racist cop / white person did a racist thing to a poor vulnerable Person of Color.
We ended up with a not insignificant number of hoaxes (remember Jussie Smollett and all the nooses found in public places). This was a textbook case of Chomsky’s manufacturing consent until BLM overplayed their hand and everyone saw through it.
This story about the deported Chilean-American grandpa was just too good to be true.
When something resembles a perfect archetype that aligns too well with prevailing media narratives (Trump admin is so fascist that they’re now deporting helpless innocent boomer LEGAL US permanent residents), one should always wait and look into the story further before one reflexively hits “share.”

We are drowning in inauthenticity
Books are not meant to provide a false facade of cultural sophistication. They’re meant to provide escape, to learn from, to fill the soul.
I will 100% judge someone whose shelves are filled with pristine books clearly curated by color or size instead of rows of well-thumbed books, haphazardly arrayed, with covers partially torn.

If you don’t want to instantly be discredited as an obvious hack, wouldn’t you at the very least qualify or temper your claims?
Like instead of saying Israel’s *primary* strategic goal is to get Americans killed, maybe that’s like 9th down the list of goals? Surely self-preservation must rank higher than “let’s hope some Americans die.”
Or instead of saying Churchill is the *chief* villain of WWII, maybe he’s like somewhere in the top 10 of villains but not in the top 5?
This seems like a low bar - yet he fails. It’s quite transparent isn’t it

Most art / fashion nowadays has been about the need to challenge the assumptions of beauty. I totally get it when it was first done - it was super transgressive and fresh - but like it’s been decades of this on repeat, and it’s been nothing but uninspiring and boring.
At this point it’s edgy to actually challenge the assumption that the challenging of the assumptions of beauty is necessary.
Which is why when I saw the latest Dolce & Gabanna Alta Moda 2025 collection in Rome, it just really took my breath away.
It’s pure Romanesque and Biblical elegance with armored corsets, great draping and jewelry fit for a goddess. Makes you really weep with joy. And the good news? The man you’re dating who can’t stop thinking about the Roman Empire? He’d love it too.
Nature is healing 🙏
