I sometimes regret that one of my biggest contributions to the world was a way for people to spend more time in front of a screen.
But learning about stories like this reminds me that Netflix did contribute something real to the world.
Florence Rendulic was a longtime Netflix DVD member.
She loved movies and used the service to keep watching them even after mobility issues made it hard for her to go to the theater.
For every film she watched, she wrote review notes on the red envelope and carefully saved them. After she passed, her children sent Netflix a box with hundreds of those envelopes, along with a letter describing how much joy the service had brought their mother.
Those envelopes now live on what’s known as “Florence’s Wall” in the London office.
Special thanks to Josh for sending these photos over and a reminder of Netflix’s ‘lore’.
