The DSA is a cynical "censorship tariff" on American tech companies, designed to suppress speech and extract funds through anklebiting fines. The EC claims today's levy is about bluechecks – @elonmusk dares apportion them to users that European bureaucrats dislike – algorithms, and ads. In reality, a strange civilizational death drive stalks Europe. It makes misguided leaders dismantle their own nuclear power plants, deluge their own cities with hostile low-human-capital migrants, and choke off their own citizens' speech on the topics that matter most. Since the days of DARPA, it's been obvious that tech and security R&D intertwine. So the bitter irony is that the DSA's safetyist zeal to stifle tech may make Europe less safe. And less strong. Certainly less prosperous. As @SecRubio has made clear: America aims for the opposite. We hope our European allies shrug off this sickness. But failing that, they should leave American companies alone.
