According to my definitions, which I just pulled out of "my turnip", right now AIs: • Don’t have consciousness. • Don’t have purpose / agency. • Do have cognitive capacities. • Do have emergent reasoning. • Do have creative capacity. What blows my mind is exactly that: in basically all science fiction before LLMs, the classics and the not so classics, a requirement for AIs to be creative and able to reason had always been that they were self aware. And then reality shows up and it turns out, nope: the creativity and reasoning we humans were so proud of can be encapsulated in some convenient static automatisms and executed whenever we feel like it. What a time to be alive, baby.
