He was discovered hours later with his victim's blood on his clothes and arrested, while the kitchen knife he used was found discarded with his DNA on it. The 20-year-old victim had just been accepted for a design course at the prestigious St Martin's School of Art when he was attacked as he walked along the road in Shoreditch, central London. He nearly died after being stabbed from behind through the heart and lungs, and was paralysed after the knife sliced through his spinal column. Sentencing Islam today at the Old Bailey, Judge Roger Chapple said: 'This was an entirely motiveless, mindless attack. Its ferocity makes my blood run cold.'
