I’m thinking about the dozens of conversations we’ve had this year with men & women who risked their lives to serve our country. I met World War II veterans who taught my 5-year-old son Karthik about what they fought for, as we watched Ashtabula County’s reenactment of the Normandy Beach landing. At the Portage County fair, I met a Vietnam War veteran who implored me to remind young Americans what America is really all about, something he worries that we’ve forgotten. I’ve had the honor of getting to know retired Army Rangers, Green Berets, & Navy Seals making their transitions back to civilian life. Every one of them had a different story, but shared one thing in common: sacrifice. The willingness to put something larger than himself ahead of comfort. The courage to take risks for a nation they love. A sense of duty that trumps self-interest. To the veterans I’ve met across Ohio & our country: thank you. Your stories remind us that freedom isn’t just a concept, it’s a living legacy passed from generation to generation. It’s a legacy that we honor today, and should remember every day. We see you. We hear you. We’ll never forget you. Happy Veterans Day. 🇺🇸
