there are at least 2 types of work in my case: - making positive space: intentional, constructive, additive, clearly goal-oriented. you begin with a clear idea or blueprint and build outward step-by-step. - making negative space: selective, subtractive, curatorial, intuitive. you rely on discernment and judgment, carving out meaning by removing or choosing from existing possibilities. i feel any type of work is a mix of the two. work with a very tight timeline forces me to do a lot more negative space work.
