Many friends have always been curious about why I joined @StoryProtocol to lead @StoryChina_. Honestly, I never expected to jump into the IP infrastructure space one day, but looking back, everything happened quite naturally. 1) The first time I heard about Story was in May 2024 when I was at my previous project. We were having a strategic meeting in HK, and during that time, I caught up with a good friend I hadn't spoken to in a while. He mentioned that he recently joined Story, saying the project was very low-key, hadn't been promoted yet, and there wasn't much public information, but A16Z had led three rounds of investment. I was immediately curious—if A16Z was willing to heavily invest in a completely unexposed project, there must be something significant behind it. 2) I've been in the industry for four years, worked at major companies, public chains, and DeFi projects, and I've probably discussed 990 out of 1000 projects. To be honest, many projects don't even require a call with the team; just looking at the blurb, I can judge that 99% are just looking to "make a quick profit and run." On the contrary, Story gives me a very Web2 vibe— the team is low-key and not in a rush to create hype. To be frank, I was a bit uncomfortable at first. But the more I learned, the more I realized we are genuinely building infrastructure, aiming to solve real-world problems transitioning from Web2 to Web3, not just boasting about "faster TPS." 3) Market cap management is something I, as a "brick mover" on the project side, care about a lot. Although many people avoid discussing it, Story is indeed one of the few projects that can sustain its growth under high valuations. Many people ask, "Why not go on Binance?" But I believe that truly quality assets are not determined by their initial listing on Binance but by whether you can sustain the narrative, buying pressure, and belief. 4) The founder @storysylee can be said to be the most "driven" founder I've ever seen, always responding to messages instantly and seriously considering any suggestions with quick feedback. This is completely different from many projects I've encountered in the past—most founders are very active on social media before TGE, but after the BN, they "disappear." In contrast, the Story team is one of the few that genuinely focuses on "BUIDL." A significant part of judging whether a project can succeed depends on how driven the founder is and whether they are vocal (like Kaito's Yuhu and Hyperliquid's Jeff). 5) As for the controversy surrounding "VC coins," there's really no need to demonize it. Just look at Solana and Sui; aren't they also VC projects? But they have made it. Story is the only Korean project heavily backed by A16Z, supported by top-tier VCs in North America, leading Korean capital, and a strong consensus in consumer culture. Everyone has seen the local buying pressure in Korea; Story, alongside Solana and Sui, is part of the A16Z - SSS trio. Now, it's not just about the internal competition of Web3 but how to genuinely bring Web2 brands, institutions, and IP into the space. Besides the financing lineup, VC projects need to leverage these top institutions to unlock what kind of resources. 6) More importantly, Story is preparing a series of "big news" and ecological implementations during this time. Looking at the roadmap's pace is indeed exciting. I believe that the intersection of IP and AI is one of the most hardcore and certain narratives for the next cycle. I rarely go all in on a narrative, but Story is the one I am willing to fully commit to.
